Every year there are Roads and Stanley Park Seawall closures in Stanley Park for events, street maintenance, and weather issues.

This page will list the road and seawall closures that affect Stanley Park.

March 2024 Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

March 25-28, 2024: Daily 7am-3pm: Seawall Closure between Third Beach and Prospect Point for installation of netting.

    There are still ongoing Road, Trail, and Seawall closures in March 2024 in Stanley Park for the work being done as part of the Stanley Park Forest Management project.

    The work impacting the Stanley Park Causeway is complete now so it should not be affected anymore.

    There will still be intermittent delays on trails and roadways throughout Stanley Park during March.  This is for large machinery access to main roads and trails for the overhead tree work that is underway.  Please expect delays and plan ahead!

    Traffic Impacts during March (and possibly into April):

    • Pipeline Road Extension – closed to vehicular traffic but pedestrians and cyclists can still use Eagle Trail.
    • Pipeline Road – occasional 15 min intermittent closures, followed by ten minute openings. When in place, traffic will flow as normal on Stanley Park Drive.
    • Stanley Park Drive – occasional 15 minute intermittent closures, followed by 10 minute openings. When in place, traffic will flow as normal on Pipeline Road.

    Trail Impacts during March (and possibly into April):

    • Wren and South Creek trails temporarily restricted.
    • Bridle Path, Tatlow Walk and Prospect Point trails will see intermittent closures.
    • Trails intersecting with Pipeline Road will see intermittent closures

    Parking Impacts during March (and possibly into April):

    • Prospect Point picnic area parking lot is closed until March 29.
    • Parallel parking along North Lagoon Dr may be restricted.
    • Parallel parking along Pipeline Road may be restricted.

    • Ongoing - The False Creek Seawall is closed between the Cambie St. Bridge and Hinge Park because part of the underlying structure has been compromised.  A detour onto West 1st Ave has been set up.

    March 16, 2024 Some roads will be closed for the BMO St. Patrick's Day 5K run:

    • 8:45am-10:30am - Pipeline Road, Avison Way, and Stanley Park Drive will be closed on the EAST side of Stanley Park.
    • 7am-Noon - Rose Garden Lane will be closed.

April 2024 Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There are normally only Road and Seawall closures in April in Stanley Park for the Vancouver Sun Run.

April 21, 2024 8am-11am - Car and Bus access to Stanley Park will be extremely limited or non-existent in the morning due to the Vancouver Sun Run.

Note: Although the Sun Run doesn't actually go into Stanley Park, it will affect access to the park.  The Sun Run runners will run down Georgia Street(closed from 8am-11am), then turn left onto Denman Street(closed from 8am-11am), then onto Beach Ave(closed from 8am-11:30am).

So, when the runners are running, both the Georgia Street and Beach Ave entrances to Stanley Park will essentially be unavailable until all the runners have passed.  There are numerous other road closures in Vancouver in the morning for this race.

There are normally only Road and Seawall closures in May in Stanley Park for the BMO Vancouver International Marathon.

  • May 5, 2024 6:30am - 11am - All roads in Stanley Park will be closed for the BMO Vancouver International Marathon.  However, the Stanley Park Causeway will remain open.
  • May 5, 2024 9am - 1pm - The Stanley park seawall will be closed from for the BMO Vancouver International Marathon.  Note that the half marathon and 8km race go through the interior of Stanley Park so it will be difficult to get anywhere in the park during this time.
  • May 5, 2024: Note that there will also be lots of road closures in the West End and Coal Harbour as part of the marathon also.  Check the marathon's website for more details.

June 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Most of the Roads in Stanley Park are open for driving except for Stanley Park Drive next to Ceperley Park so you still need to exit Stanley Park via North Lagoon Drive onto Georgia Street.  Most of the temporary bicycle lane has been removed except for the above mentioned section.  The tour bus parking is back at Prospect Point.

There is work being done on Pipeline Road just north of the Rose Garden.  There is a detour in place via Rose Garden Lane.

There are also normally only Road and Seawall closures in June in Stanley Park on the Seawall for charity walks such as the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and the Annual World Partnership Walk.

July 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There are normally only Road and Seawall closures in July in Stanley Park for events such as Walk with the Dragon, Rotary Ride for Hearing and the Celebration of Light Fireworks and Festival.

  • July 19-21, 2023 CLOSED - Burnaby St from Beach Ave to Bidwell St.
  • July 22, 2023 The Celebration of Light Fireworks and Festival take place at English Bay.  There will be road closures in Stanley Park and in the West End of Vancouver.
  • July 22, 2023 9am-5pm - Traffic Controls- Beach Avenue from Davie St to Pacific St.
  • July 22, 2023 5pm-12am - CLOSED- Beach Avenue from Stanley Park to Pacific St.
  • July 22, 2023 5pm-12am - CLOSED- Davie St from Denman St to Burrard St.
  • July 22, 2023 5pm-12am - CLOSED- Denman St from Alberni St to Beach Ave.

  • July 25, 2023 The Celebration of Light Fireworks and Festival take place at English Bay.  There will be road closures in Stanley Park and in the West End of Vancouver.

There are normally only Road and Seawall closures in August in Stanley Park for events such as the Vancouver Pride parade.

  • August 6, 2023 7am-4pm - The Vancouver Pride parade takes place in the West End of Vancouver.  There will be road closures in the West End of Vancouver and traffic in Stanley Park will be affected.

September 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There are Road and Seawall closures in September in Stanley Park for large events such as the Vancouver Triathlon, RBC Gran Fondo Whistler, and the new Great Outdoors Comedy Festival.

  • September 4, 2023 6:30am - 10:30am - All roads in Stanley Park will be closed due to the Vancouver Triathlon.
  • September 9, 2023 4am - 8:30am - parts of Stanley Park Drive, Pipeline Road, Avison Way, and Stanley Park Causeway will be closed for the RBC GranFondo Whistler.  Also, the Lions Gate Bridge NORTHBOUND will be closed for the bicyclists to head to Whistler from 5:30am to 8:30am.
  • September 10, 2023 8am - 3pm - Rose Garden Lane will be closed for the Battle of Britain Memorial Ceremony.
  • September 11-19, 2023 - The Totem Poles Parking Lot will be closed from Sep 11 to Sep 19 for setup and takedown of the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival.
  • September 15-16, 2023 - We anticipate rad closures and congestion in Stanley Park for this event during the afternoons/evenings on these dates for the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival.  The Brockton Oval Parking Lot will be used for people attending this event and pickup/drop-off, and accessible access.  The parking lot on Avison Way will be used for crew parking.  

October 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There will be numerous intermittent closures of roads, trails, and the seawall over a few weeks at the end of October 2023 due to the removal of dead trees that have been affected by the Looper Moth outbreak and years of drought.  Following are the closures:

  • October 18, 2023 to November 27, 2023 - The Stanley Park Junction Parking Lot will be only half open.  Parking will be restricted in the areas (see below) that are being worked on.
  • October 18, 2023 to November 3, 2023 - Tunnel Trail will be fully closed.
  • October 20, 2023 8am-3pm - Tisdall Walk Trail will be closed with a detour onto Pipeline Road.
  • October 20, 2023 8am-3pm - Pipeline Road will have intermittent 15 minute closures followed by ten minute openings.
  • October 23-27, 2023 8am-3pm - Stanley Park Drive will have intermittent 15 minute closures followed by ten minute openings.  Access to Stanley Park seawall where it is close to Stanley Park Drive will also be impacted.

November 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There aren't normally many Road and Seawall closures in November in Stanley Park, however parts of the seawall may be closed at times due to weather.  However, in 2023 there is Tree Removal work going on which WILL involve road and seawall closures (see below for details).

  • November 27, 2023 to Dec 1, 2023: Part of the Stanley Park Seawall near Ferguson Point has been closed due to a rock slide.  Rock scaling will take place to make it safe.  This is between Second and Third Beach.  You can detour the closure by taking the stairs up to Ferguson Point (Teahouse Restaurant) then taking the trail to Second Beach and vice versa.
  • November 6, 2023 to Dec 22, 2023: Monday to Friday: 8am-3pm : Trails and Roads throughout the park will have intermittent 15 minute closures followed by 10 minute openings for Ongoing Tree removal work.  Some parking lots may have reduced capacity.
  • November 6, 2023 -It has been reported that the seawall has been closed from Third Beach to Prospect Point probably due to weather.  Not sure when it will reopen.
  • November 11, 2023 morning - There may be road closures as part of the Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place at Stanley Park.

December 2023 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There aren't normally many Road and Seawall closures in December in Stanley Park, however parts of the seawall may be closed at times due to weather.  However, in 2023 there is Tree Removal work going on which WILL involve road and seawall closures (see below for details).

  • There will be partial and FULL closures of the Stanley Park Causeway on multiple dates from 8am to 11am/2pm in December: 3,10,16,17; January: 13,14,21, and 27 for the urgent removal of dead trees.  Full detailed closure information here: Full Closure Information.

December 31,2023 until 11pm January 1, 2024- Polar Bear Swim - Restricted (i.e. little or no) parking on:

  • Davie from Denman to Bidwell
  • Denman from Davie to Pendrell
  • Burnaby from Bidwell to Beach

Note: There won't be any roads closed for the Polar Bear Swim, but traffic around English Bay will be terrible so we advise that you park away from English Bay and walk/transit into the event.

January 2024 Road and Seawall Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

January 14, 2024 8am-2pm -1 lane of the Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be closed.

January 15, 2024 to January 19, 2024 - The Stanley Park Seawall between Prospect Point and Third Beach will be closed MONDAYS TO FRIDAYS for annual slope stabilization and maintenance work.  Third Beach will remain open.

January 21, 2024 8am-2pm -1 lane of the Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be closed.

January 27, 2024 8am-2pm -1 lane of the Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be closed.

January 28, 2024 8am-11am -Full closure of the Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge.

February 2024 Closures in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada

There aren't normally too many Road and Seawall closures in February in Stanley Park, however 2024 is different!  There is a lot of work going on removing dead trees so there are lots of closures.

  • February 11 8:30am-10am - Stanley Park Drive will be closed between North Lagoon Drive and Lagoon Drive for the Vancouver First Half Marathon.  Parking restrictions start at 5am.
