The 50th Anniversary Naval Reserve Plaque is a rarely seen plaque because it resides on Deadman's Island in Stanley Park. Deadman's Island is part of the HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve so is off limits to the public. We were able to get photos of it during a rare public tour.
The guns are obviously not there anymore. If anybody knows what happened to them, please let us know.
The plaque says:
50th Anniversary Naval Reserve
1923 - 1973
These saluting guns, originally from the aircraft carrier HMCS "Bonaventure", are place here to commemorate 50 years of service by the citizen sailors of Canada's Naval Reserves in war and peace.
Dedicated 5 May 1973
The 50th Anniversary Naval Reserve plaque is located on the east side of Deadman's Island on the HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve.
