The English Bay Plaque is an official historical marker providing brief insight into the recreational roots of the local West End area.

The plaque reads:

City of Vancouver

English Bay

Named by Captain George Richards in 1860, this became a popular recreation area with the development of the West End in the 1890's. Over the years amenities were added, including sand (1898), bath houses and pier (1909) and a bandstand in Alexandra park (1914).

1876 - 1986

The English Bay Plaque is mounted directly onto the exterior facade of the historic English Bay Bathhouse building.

This location sits right along the bustling beach promenade layout at English Bay, just outside the southwestern entrance gates of Stanley Park.
