June 20, 2019 Update: June 23, 2019 has been proclaimed 'Air India Flight 182 Remembrance Day' by the Government of British Columbia.
The Air India memorial is in memory of the 329 people that perished during a terrorist bombing of an Air India jet airliner in 1985.
The memorial is located in Ceperley Park within Stanley Park on a hill overlooking Ceperley Field. Not many people that visit Ceperley Park even notice the memorial. It has a bench and curving wall with the names of those who died etched into it. There are stones in the memorial from the various locations affected by this incident. It is surprising tranquil place and we recommend that you pay your respects when visiting this area.
The inscription says:
This memorial honours the 329 passengers and crew who perished in the bombing of Air India flight 182 on June 23rd, 1986, at 0713 GMT off the coast of Ireland and the two baggage handlers killed in the associated bombing at Narita Airport in Japan on that day. This act of terrorism is a Canadian tragedy planned and executed on Canadian soil. The Government of Canada has declared June 23rd to be a national day of remembrance for victims of terrorism.
This wall, symbolic of the flight path terminates with a stone from Ahakista Ireland. The stones below are from all of the places directly affected by this tragedy.

The Air India memorial is located in Ceperley Park in Stanley Park. It is next to the original playground in Ceperley Park and Second Beach Picnic Area. Nearby is Second Beach and the Stanley Park Seawall.
